Attracting contract engineers for a time-critical project

    LOCATION: Denmark

    TYPE: Freelance

    THE COMPANY:

Cundall is an international multi-disciplinary engineering and sustainability consultancy.

Founded roughly 40 years ago in response to the chaotic nature of the construction industry at the time, Cundall was setup to deliver projects more effectively in a multi-disciplinary people and client-centred practice. The company now employs in excess of 1,000 engineers across 20 countries.

    THE CHALLENGE:

Cundall was designing a major hyper-scale data centre in Denmark. This was large project and as such, they needed to recruit reliable site-based resident engineers to oversee the construction.

Since Cundall were entering a new territory, with very different tax implications, the company decided to seek outside help to meet its hiring requirements. They approached Aylin White as a result of our proven track record of providing strong teams of resident engineers across Europe.

    THE ROLE:

Cundall needed to recruit several mechanical, electrical and civil engineers on two-year contracts to oversee the construction of a major data centre.

    THE SERVICE:

Aylin White first agreed a timeframe with Cundall that was in-line with the commencement of the project. With a deadline in place, we first approached our established network of contract engineers to find and pre-vetted candidates with availability, alongside this the team launched a talent and market insights campaign to understand the current market conditions and begin reaching out to find new engineering talent.

Whilst the search continued, the team also consulted our payroll providers in Scandinavia to gather intelligence on the local tax implications for employment and fed this information back to Cundall. With this information in hand, we were able to advise Cundall on the rates they would need to pay in order to be compliant with local tax codes, and to be competitive in the Scandinavian labour market. Having placed a number of contractors across Europe, we were also able to provide important advice on the visa and work permit process for their new hires.

After a successful attraction campaign, we compiled a shortlist of compelling candidates for Cundall, several of which were subsequently hired.

    THE RESULT:

Working within the pre-agreed timeframes, Aylin White helped Cundall to assemble a strong team of mechanical, electrical, and civil engineers to oversee the construction of a major data centre.

As a result of these successful hires, all the major project milestones were achieved and the team was able to successfully see the project through to completion.
