Gathering market intelligence to inform best practice hiring solutions
LOCATION: UK
TYPE: Permanent
THE COMPANY:
Phoenix ME is a UK-based market leader in the design, installation, and commissioning of mechanical and electrical systems.
Phoenix ME’s clients operate in various sectors including commercial offices, banking establishments, data centres, government buildings, residential infrastructure, and pharmaceutical laboratories.
Established in 1931, the company now has a turnover in excess of £250 million, employing over 300 staff. It regularly works on projects with budgets of up to £50 million, covering the full range of services and distribution systems required for a varied range of building solutions.
THE CHALLENGE:
Phoenix ME was looking for a Head of Health and Safety to replace an outgoing team member. Phoenix ME wanted to reduce the salary gap and raise its profile but had been finding it challenging to locate suitable candidates.
Phoenix ME came to Aylin White looking for more than just a candidate, they wanted market intelligence to help inform the search as well as the wider business regarding remuneration packages, the types of candidates that are in the market, how their business and roles would be perceived by candidates, and how its brand was perceived across the labour market.
Alongside this, they also wanted to gain further insight into diversity and inclusion practices across the market, particularly regarding female representation.
THE ROLE:
Phoenix needed to hire a new Head of Health and Safety to replace an outgoing team member.
THE SERVICE:
Aylin White began by leading the discovery process and internally agreeing a search strategy. Leveraging our extensive UK network alongside talent mapping and outreach, we were able to gather data on Phoenix ME’s brand and reputation in the market and seek out potential candidates for the role.
Whilst collating that data, we also set our team the task of researching salary and benefits for senior Health and Safety professionals that we could benchmark against this opportunity.
Following a series of discussion with potential candidates and armed with the market intelligence they required, we then went back to Phoenix with a shortlist of compelling candidates along with a series of recommendations on how Phoenix could both refine its hiring strategy and integrate D&I pathways into its hiring process.
THE RESULT:
Following Aylin White’s recommendations and research into suitable salary benchmarks for senior Health and Safety professionals, Phoenix ME was able to approach and sound out suitable candidates, one of whom was ultimately hired for the role.
Phoenix ME was also able to use our research into its brand to refine its recruitment strategy and target more graduates.
Our research into D&I practices was also useful for Phoenix ME, which subsequently set up D&I pathways to ensure that it was recruiting more professionals from diverse backgrounds.
